About
This is not a dress rehearsal.
In 2006, after four years in Alexandria, Va. I bought a house in North East Washington, D.C. My apartment was cozy, it was cheap, and close to the Metro. It was many things, but it wasn’t mine.
For six torturous months, I searched DC for the perfect fixer-upper. After after getting an offer rejected at the 25th hour, I had all but given up. The hell with it – I’m moving back to Chicago. But that’s not what happened. I stumbled upon a row house near both the bus and the metro – a little back yard, and good bones top to bottom.
This is the story of my house, and my efforts to take control of my life by taking control of my home. It doesn’t always work out that way. But when I lay down at night, the house has either moved forward, or remained stagnant by my own hand.
People often ask me, “how do you know how to do that?” Truth is, I don’t always. Often I don’t have a clue. But that’s part of the adventure. As long as the task at hand won’t kill me, or burn down the house, I’ll give it a shot.
This site is categorized by the rooms and tools that I’m focusing on for a particular post. I’m a programmer by trade, so I wrote the taxonomy-image plugin that generates the thumbnails in the right sidebar. Like everything else in my life, it’s a work in progress, but I’ll provide the source if anyone’s interested.
This my house, and a my life. Apparently, this is what I signed up for, and no, it’s not a dress rehearsal. Take a look around. If you have any ideas or suggestions for a particular room, please drop me a line.
Yours,
Wyatt
